Making a Plastic Liner for a Half Wine Barrel Planter

    oak barrells rely on their rigid form from being wet…….will the plastic liner imped this process? The wood expands when wet is what I meant helping the barrel hold its shape, I like the idea of plastic, I also think the plastic will help in transplanting later. wait for your thoughts, rob

      Hi Robert: I do think the plastic helps with the life of the barrel. And they do still get plenty wet, so I would guess the barrel’s natural process isn’t impeded — can’t say for sure. I don’t think there’s a perfect solution, but this way has worked well for me!

    Weed cloth can be utilized for this as well. I had a shitty old barrel and stapled weed cloth to the outside to keep it together, it helped keep moisture inside as a side effect. Might be the best solution overall, used inside though. Slows down the mositure leaving the barrel, yet allows the barrel to still get wet for rigidity.

    You must be in the Bay Area, because that pictures is surely a backyard in the City.
