under its own golden weight.

Because a road trip scrubs the rough edges from a tired mind.

Ukiah, Booneville, Philo

Elk, Jenner, Freestone

I found fruit.

I drove.

I talked to myself.

I drove.

I watched the days deepen into autumn.

I drove.

Sometimes all it takes to wake you up is a quick shift in perspective. That happened to me today, when my friend Janet reappeared after almost four weeks hiking solo in the Eastern Sierra. • Postcards From Holland

I know it will be cold in Holland. I won’t see fields of tulips gracefully nodding their heads in the breeze. I read somewhere that Holland has more museums per capita than any other place in the world, so I hope to see some of them. And maybe a windmill or two

  2. Sounds like a perfect trip! That area is so beautiful! Year ago I took a bike ride from Grants Pass, OR to San Francisco and went through a lot of that area. Going slow is awesome!

  3. Nice work. I'm inspired by your recipe. I like to do such things around my birthday and it's just around the corner.

  4. That Bluebird Cafe sign's a beauty, especially when it's lit up at night. It, alone, is almost worth a weekend road trip. I've bookmarked this recipe for middle of winter, when I'll really need it.

Your curious spirit and get-up-and-go makes me smile.

  5. Thanks, y'all, for coming along on the ride. I would absolutely love to hear other people's road trip recipes. Post them, bloggers! Or just tell me about them.

Tigress: I heard that pan calling your name. I heard it, I tell you. :-)
